About WaterTDS

About WaterTDS.Plainly stated.

Who builds this, how support works, and how it's funded — laid out directly below.

Founder

Built by an engineer,
obsessed with measuring the invisible.

Naren Bansal, founder of WaterTDS
Naren Bansal
Founder, WaterTDS

Naren studied engineering at IIT Delhi and has spent his career building hardware products. WaterTDS is built on a simple idea: a sensor should tell you about a problem before it happens, not after.

He's Barista Hustle-certified in water for coffee. Much of TDSBot's specialty-coffee focus comes from conversations with baristas at World of Coffee about water problems they were guessing at, not measuring.

How TDSBot actually started

It started with a patent for an adaptive sprinkler system to cool solar panels — panels lose about 0.5% efficiency per degree Celsius they heat up.

I needed a low-cost water conductivity meter for it and couldn't find one anywhere in Taiwan or China, so I built one myself, for under $4.

Around the same time, my wife kept reminding me to change our home RO filter. That annoyance turned out to be a bigger market than solar cooling: remote water purifier monitoring.

I pivoted to a dual conductivity meter, then added a flow meter. Home users were the initial target, but B2B customers found us through a set of programmatic city water-quality pages and asked us to focus on B2B instead.

The idea started with a home RO purifier, but the hardware didn't stay there.

TDSBot was built to commercial standards, from fittings to operating range, to run in an ice machine, a combi oven, or an RO manufacturer's production line, not just under a kitchen sink.

How this actually gets built

Team & structure.

Product direction is Naren's. A six-person team at Trident builds and runs the software day to day, with specialists brought in where specific expertise is needed.

AI-augmented, end to end
AI tools are part of the production workflow, from firmware logic to this page. Every output is reviewed and owned by a person.
A distributed specialist network
Consultants across water chemistry, firmware, industrial design and regulatory compliance are brought in project by project, as needed.
A dedicated six-person software team
Software runs through Trident Software — six people dedicated to the WaterTDS project: a product lead, developers, an AWS infrastructure engineer, QA, and a front-end developer. The relationship predates WaterTDS by years. The team was originally based in Ukraine and relocated to Switzerland after the war.
Manufacturing partner
TDSBot is manufactured by an EMS company with 35 years in business and ISO 9001/14001 certification. More below ↓
How we think about data

Four rules that shape
every reading on this platform.

These are specifically about how TDSBot handles data — not general company values.

Measure first, estimate second
Every industry page on this site draws the same line: what TDSBot's sensors directly measure (TDS, conductivity, temperature, flow) versus what's calculated or estimated from that data (LSI, hardness, filter life). The distinction is always labelled, never blurred.
Raw data is yours, unconditionally
Raw sensor readings are always exportable, regardless of subscription tier or account status. The analytics built on top of that data are ours — but the measurements themselves were never ours to withhold.
Analytics explain the data, they don't replace it
When TDSBot shows you an LSI or a reject ratio, the formula and the inputs are visible, not a black box. You can see exactly how a raw reading became a conclusion.
AI accelerates the work, it doesn't invent the facts
This site is built with an AI-augmented workflow. Every specific claim about the team, manufacturing partner, or numbers was checked against something real before publishing.
Manufacturing partner

Iriichi (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
A relationship of two decades.

TDSBot is manufactured by Iriichi (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a Japanese-Malaysian electronics manufacturing (EMS) company founded in 1989 as a joint venture between Iriichi Technologies and Sojitz Corporation. Iriichi runs the full production process in-house, from bare PCB to finished, tested product.

Naren has known Iriichi's chairman personally for over two decades.

Also worth knowing
Iriichi also markets TDSBot independently in Japan, alongside WaterTDS.

Support & reliability

What happens
when something breaks.

A small team is a real question for enterprise buyers. Here's the direct answer.

24-hour response commitment
Every support request — dashboard, device, account — gets a response within 24 hours, from Naren directly, a dedicated team member at Trident, and a part-time specialist in New Delhi covering GCC and Japan time zones. Additional roles are identified and ready to add as volume grows.
Hardware failures
A device RMA or manufacturing defect is handled through Iriichi's own 400-person operation and its production and QA infrastructure.
Infrastructure
Code is backed up on GitLab. The dashboard and API run on load-balanced AWS servers, with auto-scaling gateways handling device traffic as the fleet grows.
Code review
Every release is reviewed jointly with Trident's QA team through a dedicated product lead. AI accelerates the writing; the team owns what ships.
Support scales with committed volume
Dedicated account support and expanded response coverage are added ahead of confirmed enterprise volume, tied to real production commitments.
Self-funded, with fees just starting to come in
We held off charging for data plans early on, so customers could experience the platform and its analytics before paying for it. Now that paid plans are live, they're already covering real operating costs, including hosting.
The platform

One connected stack,
not just a sensor.

TDSBot is the device. WaterTDS is what runs underneath it — the same platform whether you're a single café or an OEM shipping thousands of units a year.

Our vision

From equipment that operatesto equipment that reports.

Water infrastructure is entering the same shift that manufacturing, transportation and energy went through — from equipment that operates to equipment that reports its own condition.

The goal is a Water Intelligence Platform that helps businesses understand, protect, and optimize their water systems through connected sensing, analytics, and predictive maintenance.

The test we hold every feature to
Every feature is measured against one question:

Does it help customers make better decisions about their water systems?

If not, it doesn't ship.
How we think about this

A few things we
actually mean.

01Say what's actually true
Every claim on this site is something we can back up — what TDSBot measures versus estimates, who our team is, what our manufacturing partner does. If we don't know something, we say so.
02Staying small, on purpose
We're not presenting a bigger company than exists. A small team with real manufacturing behind it is the bet this company is built on.
03Measured, calculated, or estimated — labelled
Across this site, we distinguish what TDSBot measures directly from what's derived or estimated. That applies to how we describe the company too.
04Relationships over transactions
Two decades with our manufacturing partner. Direct relationships with the people building this with us. It's a slower way to build a company.
05Feedback gets heard
TDSBot has changed based on people who pushed back, suggested, or pointed out what was missing. If an idea is better for everyone using this, not just one customer, we build it.

Disclaimers: TDSBot measures TDS, conductivity, temperature and flow rate directly. LSI, Larson-Skold Index, hardness and alkalinity estimates are derived from onboarded utility water chemistry data — not directly measured inline. TDSBot does not measure PFAS, bacteria, or other biological or chemical contaminants; for RO systems, reject ratio is used as a proxy indicator of membrane performance only. TDSBot monitoring data is not a substitute for accredited laboratory testing or statutory water quality compliance testing.
